1. Why study Globalization and Development?

With the word globalization, I can form words such as global, bago (new), blog and tool. On the other hand with the word development, I can from words such as develop, men, envelope, deep and top. Although I am patterning what I just did to a game of Text Twist, these aren’t simply just words but they are significantly related and contribute to what the original words really mean.

Globalization as I understand is the exchange, sharing and interaction of ideas, products and such by different nations, technologies and economies around the world. Globalization has made many things possible- making connections faster and bringing people closer, ultimately improving our daily lives. By learning and affecting each other, we see how globalization influences us all no matter what and since we may be directly and indirectly involved, we have the responsibility then to know what is happening in the world. Since the world is changing and at vast rates, we do not only need to know what is changing but how we can change things, or our perspectives on how things are done. This will not only help us to improve but also keep moving forward, and that is precisely what development is.

Why I believe it is important to study globalization and development is because of the fact that we have a certain place in the world, and we have to keep responding and interacting with everyone else. Without fully understanding these concepts and what goes behind, we won’t be carrying out ourselves properly as individuals, as part of a culture or as part of a nation. As Filipinos, we certainly have a role in contributing to the world. No matter what role that may be, big or small, we have a choice to learn from others, improve our skills, build relationships, or change our perspectives. Making a difference can be done through simple measures. Studying about globalization and development can be the first step.
