2. How do we begin to think about the world?

It’s all about perspective. Pin-Fat said that “how we think about the world affects how we live in it. It is of course not just a matter of how we live in it on our own, but how we live in it with others.” Our perspective would greatly have an impact on how we see the world, how we relate with others and what influences us to make choices. That is why we have to be open to learning new ideas, concepts and things that can help us widen if not create a perspective to not only better understand the way the world is but be able to react or act accordingly.

1. In what ways does a history of globalization differ from a history of the world?

One way that separates the two is the time. I think what came first was the history of the world and as people explored, discovered, created and innovated new concepts and things (like trade and transportation) as well as interacted with each other, that’s when globalization started. So I think that globalization is the brain child of how the people interacted or reacted with the world. The history of globalization has also been quite rapid in its development because of the start of trade, migration and use of technology, more specifically the internet.

2.Is globalization really a new way of looking the world, or is it simply a new word for imperialism, colonialism, modernism, and capitalism?

Globalization may be confused as meaning the same as imperialism, colonialism, modernism and capitalism. It is because of the fact that people have used it in a negative way- through the same reasons as the concepts just mentioned, which is to gain power or benefit. A good example of colonialism is what we have experienced in our own country of the Philippines. We saw how the Spaniards abused our people and benefited from our own resources. But Globalization is not the same as this, if understood better and used correctly, Globalization can help all countries and people for the good.

3. Who is behind globalization? Is it really an American phenomenon?

It is not An American phenomenon but a global phenomenon. I think that America may have coined the term but globalization has been present long before the term was used. America has also greatly contributed to the development of the internet, which has changed the way we communicate and interact with one another.

4. How far has globalization progressed? Will it reach a “tipping point”, when the world is fully globalized? If so, when?

I don’t think we can exactly measure how much globalization has progressed but it is increasing at rapid pace and has no signs of slowing down. I think it will reach a tipping point in the future but it will take a really long time for that to happen. The world will be fully globalized when all countries, especially those that are still developing, will start to benefit more from it. There is also no measure as to when it will happen. Change is constant and I don’t think people from the past even knew it was possible that we would be able to do the things we are doing right now, such as communicate through the internet or cell phone with just a few clicks of a button and so many other things. One of the most obvious reasons for me to say that globalization is progressing really fast is the fact that we are taking it up and studying about it. And as the world changes and progresses, we have no choice but to keep up and keep learning and making ourselves aware of what is happening.

5. Is globalization good or bad? Who are the winners and losers?

There has been a lot to debate on whether globalization is good or bad since there are many advantages as well as disadvantages. I'm still making my decision on whether or not globalization is good or bad.One major issue is the fact that countries that have profited from globalization have done so at the expense of developing countries. The winners of course are the ones benefiting from it and the losers are the ones being exploited and abused.
