4. Who do we think we are?

Who we are as persons can be identified even before we are born into this world. How is that possible? Our identity is formed from many factors, they can be the type of environment we are brought up in, religion, gender, race and lifestyle we have. How we are affected by these factors which helps shaped our identity and how we think of ourselves, our perceptions towards ourselves as well as others. And as we are conceived into the world, we are already automatically born into a specific type of environment.

But in the age of Globalization, how do we define ourselves as Filipinos? Filipinos are all over the world and I believe that what sets us apart from others is the fact that we have character and charisma in showing our capabilities individually as a Filipino people. This is what makes us able to compete globally with the rest of the world. Narratives are stories that shows us a glimpse of the kind of identity a nation has. This to is an important aspect as to why we Filipinos take pride in our nation, from the stories we hear and tell. Just like Apl.d.ap of the Black Eyed Peas who is proud to be a Filipino and sings about being one. We must be proud of who we are and where we come from but also have the same level of respect for other people as well. Sometimes we rush into thinking negatively about a certain culture, which at times cannot be avoided. But we must learn to set our differences aside and be able to work and help each other out.

In being able to think about who we are, we must also consider how we inevitably interact with different people. As the saying goes, "tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are", shows that we can directly relate globalization to the way we think of ourselves. Because what others think of us also greatly influences our identity.
